I am writing about my tradition Dashian which is also called a Bijoya Dashami. Dashian celebrates victory well over evil. I Miss Dashian it gathers all of our family and relatives together and it is a really fun festival too.
Dashian is the largest festival in hindu culture that we celebrate it for fifteen days. The first day of Dashian we plant the barley and corn inside the house and in nine days those become a saplings (jamara) and in the first nine days all of our family and relatives gather. The tenth day we start putting Red Tika (Tika is made by rice, yogurt, sugar and red color) on our forehead and jamara on ear at our home. We also wear new clothes and eat delicious foods. The last four days we go to our relative’s house to celebrate. After that everybody is going to park to celebrate, some of them sing, some of them dance, and some of them play ping. Red Tika and jamara is also called a blessing from the God.
Dashian is celebrating victory over the gods and the wicked demons. All Hindu people and anybody can join on to celebrate the Bijoya Dashami. We celebrate every year it falls on last of September or middle of October. In history we found the first nine days signify the strong battle between goddess Durga and the demon Mahisasur and the tenth day is the day when Mahisasur was dead and the last five days symbolize the celebration of the victory with the blessing of the goddess.
I miss Dashian it gathers all of our family, relatives and friends. In United State, i just celebrate two times. In my country I celebrate it every year and I hope i will celebrate Dashian every year in United State too.
